Life is What Happens When You’re Standing in Line

By: Louise Taschereau

It’s true! Life is what happens when you’re standing in line!

I heard that expression when I lived in L.A., where the lines were always long. You set aside most of the afternoon if you went to the post office, the DMV – forget it!

It took me a long time to understand that expression – because it’s brilliant and true. Life is what happens when I’m standing in line and I say hello to the tired mama or play peek-a-boo with her one year old.

Life happens when I’m eating breakfast, when I’m frustrated, when I’m doing a lame dance to rock and roll, or telling an even dumber joke. Life is what happens when I’m mean, when I’m kind, when I’m inspired and when I can’t get out of bed.

Life on planet earth is my continual opportunity to make choices. I am learning and relearning that I am spirit and that I am here on planet earth to learn and play.

CDM is a god send. At CDM I learned how to ground – to settle into my body enough to connect to the earth. To see my experience as lessons. Sometimes I realize that tough lessons are also just lessons.

To play.
To learn.
To make mistakes.

To pick myself up when I fall. It’s a life game. And when I’m standing in line I can gripe and complain, or I can settle into that moment and notice the kids who wants to play peek-a-boo.
