Haste Makes Waste
Are you always in a hurry? Are you making lots of mistakes, having accidents, feeling irritated? You may be attempting to move faster than your body is able. My grandmother often reminded me of this calm philosophy when I rushed around trying to grow up faster than possible. I often remember her wise council when I am in a hurry and disturb something and then need to take time to clean up my mess. I laugh, remember “haste makes waste,” and remind myself to slow down.
What do you waste when you hurry through life: time, energy, attention? Are you constantly needing to fix something because of your lack of attention on it. Everyone is being encouraged to do more, move faster, and rush through life. Where are we going so fast and for what? Conveniences, electronic wonders and all manner of labor and time saving devices were created to provide more quiet leisure time. What happened? Are we in a hurry to create more conveniences or to possess all that are available?
We often neglect the most important things in our lives such as our relationships because of our rushing around. Recently, a friend described a visit with her grandson when she took time to focus on his interests and they watched ants for twenty minutes. She commented that without that time spent with her grandson she would not have learned about ants and their role in our world. I will add that her grandson also learned about patience and focus because of his grandmother’s attention.
My grandmother always had time and attention for me and I benefitted greatly from her company. She washed dishes by hand and still had time for those she loved. We can all learn to slow down and pay attention to what is important. Stop wasting your life by rushing around through it without taking advantage of all you have created. When you slow your pace and calm yourself, you discover what is important to you and you stop wasting yourself.
Meditation can help you do this!
