Begin With You

The world is our creative playground and we are presently making it a battleground between good and evil.  While this battle goes on in each of us, it is also being played throughout the world.  We see good and evil struggling in war, famine, greed, hate, and the basis of the struggle is fear.  This battle is part of the learning process on Earth and each of us is called to participate in our unique way.

Any struggle must first be faced within self and then move to the larger stage of family, community, nation, and world.  If one does not begin within, the unique spiritual purpose will not manifest.  An excellent example of internal change creating world change is the life of John Newton, who wrote the hymn “Amazing Grace.”  Newton was a slave ship captain who reformed from his destructive behavior and became a minister.  Newton constantly focused within to face and clear his past patterns and in the process he was a major influence in ending the British slave trade.  Newton always referred to God as the force, which led him away from evil and towards good.  He never saw himself as good but he clearly created good in this world after waking up to God and giving up evil.

Few people have as much to overcome as John Newton did or as major a role to perform in Earth’s play.  We can gain inspiration from those who have preceded us who were willing to honestly face themselves and move into the flow of God.  Newton rose above his past patterns and helped end one of humanities most evil practices.  What can you do by choosing good in your life?  How will you influence the world if you heal yourself?  Your changes can be as simple as being kind instead of cruel or as involved as a lifetime process to create change in our world.  Healing requires change and when you change yourself you can change your world.  First, look within and face your internal issues.  Then, you will be clear about what to do in the world around you.
