Releasing Stress with Meditation

By: Mark Petersen

I like to use meditation to release stress.

I have a job that is extremely stressful. I manage a large group of people in an industry that is fast paced, highly detail oriented and always under a time crunch. The very nature of it can be, at times, nerve-racking. Consequently, within our company and with our clients, it’s not uncommon for people to be tense or upset.

I find that the techniques of grounding and centering help a great deal throughout my fast-paced workday. They help me keep things in perspective, keep a cool head and a maintain a neutral viewpoint — which really helps me maneuver through the day’s challenges better than I would otherwise.

Still, sometimes the workday will get the better of me and by the end of the day I feel anxious or worried. Then I will often sit down for a meditation and focus on my grounding and centering to let go of other people’s energy that I may have picked up as well as things inside me that got agitated during the day. After that, I feel like myself again and can enjoy my evening without “bringing the work home”.

With these meditation techniques, I can experience the challenges of my career as exciting and fun more than stressful and upsetting.
