Golf and Meditation – A Winning Combination

By: Mark Petersen

I like to use the spiritual techniques when I golf.

I love to use my meditation techniques for many things in my life, including simply meditating. But today I played golf and used the techniques throughout my round to help me play better, have more fun and enjoy my friends more. I used grounding and present time to help with all of those.

Walking between holes, I would be aware of my grounding and simply let go of any stress or tension in my body. Also, as I paid attention to my thoughts, I would let go of anything that would keep me from having my attention right there in the present. Like thinking about the last shot I hit, for example, or the next one I was about to hit.

I noticed a lot of expectations and self judgement would come up around the game itself. As I focused on grounding, being in the present and letting go, I found I felt OK with whatever the day brought and it helped me noticeably play better and have more fun. My meditation techniques helped me enjoy the company of my mates by allowing more amusement and the whole day was uplifting.
