The Practicality of Meditation in Everyday Life
I have been meditating for over 18 years now using the techniques presented by CDM Spiritual Center. Throughout the years, meditation has increased my spiritual awareness, helped me to know and love myself, and has generally increased my joy in life. Beyond these amazing gifts, the daily benefits of meditation are remarkable.
I think that most folks, including myself many years ago, don’t realize how practical and useful meditation is on a daily basis … and see it as some esoteric practice only very ‘spiritual’ people can use. I work for the American Red Cross and often deal with people on their very worst days … they’ve lost their home or a loved one or a pet in a disaster …. and our teams go in to walk beside them during their recovery process. It is a very rewarding profession and often a very stressful one … dealing with clients, volunteers, donors, partners and emergency officials during a time of crisis. There is no way that I could do my job as well or enjoy it as much without meditation. The techniques allow me to be a grounded, neutral, rational presence within a chaotic environment.
While at work at the Red Cross, when I use my techniques, our responses flow, creative ideas are generated and our work environment is productive. When I don’t use them, my teams are more scattered, the problem-solving slows and the forward motion drags. Meditation helps me to focus in the moment and act versus be overwhelmed by the many pulls from my surroundings. I am grateful every day for these life-altering tools that help me have fun in whatever I’m doing – be that organizing an event, hanging out with friends or leading a disaster response. I enjoy trying new things and am generally an open-minded person…but I was a skeptic when learning to meditate. Now, I can’t imagine my life without it. It’s fun, validating, and makes me a better me. These simple tools that can be used anytime and anywhere help me to live a healthier, happier, more purposeful life. Try it…you might like it.
